One Hundred Days

What a weekend! I have been to power plate classes, had a facial (Diamond Dermabrasion felt like my face and neck was being vacuumed, very weird but actually quite relaxing until she got to the ticklish part on my neck!), had my eyelashes done, had a pedicure, a Jenny Craig consultation, I picked up my passport and then had an evening of merriment and a few tears as Playboy says goodbye to Bunny Ginge who is heading back up to Glasgow! Phew!

I had intended to have a quiet day Thursday not constantly moaning about "never drinking again...." but who was I kidding! A night at Roadhouse was never going to end without a slightly delicate head the next day! We all had an amazing night and I'm going to miss Ginge so much.

I have, for some reason, decided to try a spinning class......I must be mad! I've been doing power plate classes for about eight weeks now and I'm really noticing the difference but I know I need to include some cardio (ick) in my life and as the spinning classes are included in my Good Vibes membership they seemed like a sensible option. Well maybe not sensible......I have a feeling that I will end up as a broken crumpled heap in the corner but financially sensible! If I do manage to get through the class (IF) I'm going to cancel my YMCA gym membership which I've had since October.....October was also the last time I set foot in the gym yet I still pay them £45 a month for the privilege of carrying around my membership card in my purse! Turns out to get fitter you actually have to go to the gym not just sign up......sigh.

I'm going to go and pay off some of the balance off my Australia flight tomorrow and buy travel insurance for the year......the YEAR! Smugness alert. I have three holidays planned so far this year which justifies the purchase of an annual travel insurance policy......smug smug smug! I literally can not wait for the first holiday which will be staring in exactly two weeks....eep!

In other news my 100 day shopping ban starts today..........I'm really not looking forward to it. I keep seeing all these amazing new dresses and shoes and hats and bags and oh you get the idea......basically I keep seeing loads of new stuff that I want! Want not need, I actually don't need anything new at all. I have so many things, lots of which are still waiting to be worn/used for the first time! This next one hundred days will, hopefully, make me enjoy"shopping my wardrobe" and help me learn to appreciate what I already have rather than lust after lots of new things (which more often than not end up going straight into my wardrobe not to see the light of day for months)......hopefully. The other plus side I see is that I will want to make more things as I haven't banned fabric purchases. The olive green maxi dress is going well so far although I hate working with slippery fabrics so it's not coming along as quickly as I would like but hey ho it will be beautiful when it's finally finished!

I'll be announcing my giveaway winners tomorrow, good luck!

Velvet Black

I'm working the dreaded "Graveyard" shift this week so I'm using that as my excuse for not posting.....that's my story and I'm sticking to it! Honestly though I really haven't been doing anything very note worthy and I'm currently living in my gym clothes because it's bloody cold outside at 5.30am and I'm heading straight to the gym when I finish work at 2.15pm so outfit posts are out. I have one more Graveyard left then it's my "weekend" which is going to be incredibly busy (I have seven appointments on Wednesday and a meal/leaving party!) and then I shall mostly be spending Thursday in bed claiming that "I'm never drinking again......"!

I'm a little bit over excited......because in just over two weeks I shall be jetting off on holiday! It's the first holiday I've had since 2007 so I am very much looking forward to it. The fabulous Amber and I are heading off to the aptly named Dream Hotel in Lanzarote for a week of all inclusive chilling and I can't wait! I'm already planning my holiday wardrobe but I'm going to have to be a little bit restrained as the airline are charging us £40 per suitcase so we've decided to only take one between us plus hand's going to be interesting!

In other news......I've been wearing my French Connection high waisted shorts an awful lot over the past few years but I haven't worn the same style of jeans I bought since 2010! So I decided to have them taken up.....

......and I'm going to attempt to dye them black.....

.......tomorrow afternoon whilst I wait four hours for my passport to be finished! Have any of you used Dylon before? Any tips for me? I've never tried this before so wish me luck? I'll show you the results ASAP!!

Oooooh! Don't forget to enter my giveaway!

I Heart My Mum

I wrote a post last year dedicated to my fabulous Papa on Fathers Day and I wanted to do something similar today for my wonderful Mum on Mothers Day. I'm a very lucky girl and I have the most brilliant parents.

As the title says "I Heart My Mum", my Mum is awesome. You may or may not know but Mum actually doesn't live in the UK at the moment so I won't get to see her today. Mum is off on one of her adventures and is currently living in the Middle East, Riyadh to be exact (that's in Saudi Arabia). My parents have always had a little bit of the wanderlust in their bones and we moved around a fair bit whilst my brother and I were growing up. I think all of our moves were determined by job opportunities that arose for either Mum or Papa and we've lived all over the South of England in our formative years, for which I am very grateful!

A lot of people that I went to my final school with moved away to college, got their degree and then moved back to the safe little town they grew up in. They got a job, settled down and got married and started having babies. Don't get me wrong I don't think there is anything wrong with this I just know it isn't the kind of life I would have ever been happy with. I think my upbringing gave me to confidence and drive to try lots of new things to see how they worked out for me; if they didn't work I could/can chalk it up to experience and move on and when I find something that does work I incorporate it into my life. Throughout all of my experiments along the way Mum has always been there for me......sometimes as the voice of reason, sometimes as the voice of experience and sometimes as the reassuring voice letting me know that she'd be there for me when, inevitably, whatever I was up to blew up in my face!

"Sian sticking gold butterflies to your arm isn't the greatest fashion statement I've ever seen you make but go right ahead Darling....."

Mum is an inspiration to me: she's a fearless, independent woman who has built a fabulous life for herself and her family. Some of her many adventures include starting a successful business with the love of her life in a London public house.....

........the joys of parenthood when myself and my Little Bother showed up.....

........getting back into nursing, starting as a district nurse and working her way up to be Chief Executive Officer of Nursing (I may have made that title up but you get what I mean......she's at the top of her field and rightly so!), she volunteered during the last Iraqi war based in Basra and was known as "Brigadier" W. (I'm not kidding my Mum was a Brigadier!), I can't remember how many letters Mum has after her name but I know at least some of them denote her Masters degree and, as I've mentioned, her current adventure off in Saudi Arabi.......and that's just mentioning a few things!

Mum you are totally awesome and I love you very very much xxxxx

I've seen these charm necklaces around for a while and I always wanted one. Now, my friend L introduced me to Etsy a while ago and the rest is history really. I found all the bits and pieces I would need and thought "why not make them yourself!". Etsy is an amazing site where you can find pretty much anything you ever thought of, I love it. Currently I'm tracking down fun/quirky fabrics to make circle skirts from (I'm not including fabric, zips, patterns etc in my shopping ban, although I will be keeping it to a minimum as I already have a LOT of fabric!), semi precious stones/beads that I want to turn into necklaces and yet more fabric as I might turn my hand to quilting! My fabulous Mum has recently taken it up and I'm loving the things she is showing me via FaceTime, I have no illusions that it will be easy but there are a few events coming up that I would like to have hand made presents for so I thought why not give it a go? I will be sure to show you the results!

Just before I leave here is a shot I took of The Ginger Terror last time I visited Papa on the Isle that is Wight.....

......I have no idea why her back leg is stuck out like that but she was enjoying the chin scratching so I'm guessing it was comfortable. Bizarre creature!

It's Going To Be Interesting

I have my second date with Mr Butterflies (it was either that or Mr Experiment) tomorrow, we are going for sushi (I'm not sure what Jenny Craig would make of this). It's going to be interesting. I am looking forward to a night out, a chance to dress up and what I expect to be another pleasant evening but I'm not expecting the aforementioned butterflies to make an appearance and maybe thats a good thing? Who I said if nothing else at least it will be a lovely evening with good food and interesting company.

Rather randomly Mr Fireman got in contact again today which was a little odd. I never mentioned Mr Fireman before, brief backstory; I accepted a date with a cute 6ft5" fireman (I'm nothing if not original with my nicknames hey?) back in December, we ended up going for a few drinks at one of my favourite pubs which was lovely. I met him straight from work and I was a little early and for some reason that night I managed to get chatted up by three different people before Mr Fireman arrived! When he did arrive he was just as tall as he said (big relief, why do guys lie about this??) and looked better than his pictures but no I didn't fancy him (of course). I told him of the fabulous one liners that had been used on me before he arrived and we generally had a very lovely evening laughing and chatting.

I was in the middle of my Christmas Rota which meant that I didn't have a day off until the New Year but I did want to see Mr Fireman again just to make sure there wasn't a PHWOAR factor as, on paper at least, he was perfect. I texted and got a response back pretty much immediately saying that he had really enjoyed our date but had met someone else and gotten on so well with her it would feel weird to go on a date with me. I was totally happy for him and wished him well, he genuinely is a lovely guy and deserves to find someone amazing.

Back to the present day then. I got a text this morning from a number I didn't recognise just asking how I was and what I was up to. I asked who it was and when he told me "it's Mr Fireman!"(he obviously used his real name, he doesn't call himself Mr least not to my knowledge) I responded in friendly manner asking how he'd been etc.... Now don't get me wrong I do still think he's one of those "perfect on paper" guys but I know I didn't fancy him and I'm not really sure I want to meet up again, hmmmmmm. (I'm going on the assumption that he's single again by the way and you know what they say about people who assume.....)

In all honesty I've kind of given up on the whole online dating thing, after six years on and off various websites I've actually ran out of men that I either  A: want to go out with or B: haven't already been out with. It seems the dating pool of men I am interested in is fairly small in London, who knew! I am actually very happy single, I'm not saying that I don't want a relationship in the future but for right now life is good.

In other news I'm glad I'm starting my shopping ban on the 28th March ........

......I was window shopping on Forever 21's website and found (read snapped up immediately) a few things that I love. I'm already planning on wearing some of them for my date tomorrow night which I promise to take outfit photos for. I may have accidentally window shopped on Topshop's website too and these......

.......are apparently arriving tomorrow too, ooops! It's ok though because I'm going to take back the snake print shoes I showed you the other day because despite how lovely they are they rub on my ankles and I've only put them on to see how they looked with a pair of jeans so I think a night in them would be agony! Ah well suede minty goodness come to Momma!

Rather excitingly (for me anyway) I've decided to take up jewellery making.......well it's really more putting together components I've bought/found to make necklaces that I love. To celebrate this I've decided to do a giveaway, my first one ever! Come back tomorrow for more details!

Shiny Things Excite! head exploded and I'm only now just putting it back together. Less dramatically put I've had my first migraine.......ew! Ew might be a little bit of an understatement actually......exploding eyeballs, vomiting and having to lie in a darkened room for hours.....yup definitely more than ew.......anyway moving swiftly on!

I'm so overly excited.....I've booked my tickets to Brisbane! I'm officially going to Australia in August! Eeepppp!

Way too many exclamation points used in this paragraph! Ooooops there's another one............I still have a lot of things to get sorted; airport hotels, the flights to Fiji, accommodation while in Fiji, travel insurance etc etc but I'm getting it organised! I have lifts to and from the airport arranged so at least thats two things crossed off my to do list!

In other news I got a little surprise package in the post today which made me feel a lot better. The fabulous Lauren of Lauren Grace Jewellery........

.......sent me this gorgeous thing.....

......I love charm necklaces and this mini bee and green crystal are totally stunning, I can't wait to wear it. The packaging is beautiful and the craftsmanship is amazing. Head over to Lauren's blog and website and check out her fabulous creations. I already have my eye on a silver name necklace and some mini bee earrings!

However I have pretty much 99.9% decided to set myself a shopping ban for one hundred days starting from next payday (28th March). There are a few reasons for this; I've read about a few other bloggers who are doing this recently, I already own sooooooo many things (a lot of which still have the tags on) and I want to save some money. I'm going to set myself some rules to stick to........

  1. The ban starts on the 28th March and will finish on the 6th July, one hundred whole days!
  2. No clothes, shoes or jewellery can be bought during the one hundred days
  3. I can buy toiletries but only once the ones I already have run out
  4. No take aways or taxis!
  5. I can buy new books but only when I've finished reading all the ones I've already bought
  6. There will be one exception to rule 2.......a dress for my birthday outing!

........and I plan on it being this dress.......

.....or this dress.....

......from Style Me Celeb which I discovered on From Gem With Love's blog (a must read if you don't already have it on your blog list). There are quite a few dresses on the site that I would happily adopt but I shall be limiting myself to only one. I'm thinking the brown dress as my new shoes will go with it very well but then I do love the red one.....ahhhhh decisions decisions!

I'm going to go crawl back into my bed although I am feeling a little better than I was, I hope you have an exciting week ahead of you?

The Three D's

What a week! I have rolling days off which means four times a year I get three day weekends (yay) but this also means that for the other eight months I have a six day week when the days off change and I've just finished mine. Bluergh! I have a lot planned for my days off including dancing, dressmaking and dieting....

My lovely Mum bought me some gorgeous fabric for Christmas and I've been trying to work out what I wanted to do with it, I finally decided on a 50's style wiggle dress. When I went to get the fabric out of the storage box under my bed I had a little look through at what else I had in there.....I ended up with ideas for five dresses!

I love maxi dresses but I'm not too keen on the straight up and down looks that are on the high street at the moment,  I prefer the dresses to have a bit of movement but I also don't like the tiered look that seems to be the only other option (with a few exceptions) available so I decided to make some for myself. I have many many metres of sari silk which I was very unsure how to use so I thought the halter neck maxi dress would be the answer. I also decided to make myself a pair of black high waisted flared trousers too......I think I'll be busy for the next few weeks!

In other news I've decided to try out the Jenny Craig diet plan for a month in the hopes that I'll feel comfortable in my bikini......did I mention I'm going on holiday next month? Eeeeep! I am fully aware that I am not big and I do like my shape but I am about a stone heavier than I have ever been before and I don't like it. I've started exercising again (which I don't love but I also don't hate it anymore either which is progress) and I know this will help but I also realised that my diet is awful! I eat for convenience rather than health and nutrition (or taste), working the weird hours I do I sometimes always seem to eat badly. I had a look online at a variety of different meal delivery options available and there were a few I thought about trying but the half price Jenny Craig offer swayed me. Yesterday the boxes were delivered.....

.......I'm actually looking forward to this next month! I was able to customise my menu, taking out anything I don't like (mushrooms, beans and porridge.......ewww) and there are lots of "free foods" I can add and lots of snack options so I'm not going to go hungry. Wish me luck?

Tonight I shall be heading out for an evening of dancing and general merriment with some of my fellow Bunnies which I am very much looking forward to. I've no idea what I'm going to wear but it will definitely include one of my new pairs of shoes........

.......thats four pairs I've bought so far this year and that leaves me only four more pairs for the rest of the year (I will be sticking to my resolution)! How are your New Years resolutions going so far?
